Alma Ouweneel is a photographer and academic with a background in philosophy, law and neuroscience. Her research constitutes an interdisciplinary body of work reflecting on the effects of digitalisation and globalisation, on solitude and on changing cultural identity.

Alma's academic and artistic research focusses on the place of technology and modernisation in society and the relationship between individuals and the changing environment they inhabit. This is simultaneously reflected in her photography and ongoing independent writing.

During her masters in neuroscience and human rights law, Alma focussed on the impact of technology and neuroethics. Throughout her twenties, Alma developed various photojournalism series in the Americas capturing the surreal and solitary atmosphere of the modern urban landscape.

She is currently designing a solo exhibition based on her photographic work, writes academic pieces on neurolaw and neurotech regulation, and shares reflective pieces on travel, culture and globalisation, based on her long-term solo travels.
